Character & Integrity

Gary's story: overcoming 25 years in prison for crimes he did not commit and
coming out grateful, not hateful – better, not bitter, with an attitude of gratitude.
Who Gary Used To Be
A 20-year-old under-achiever and eleventh grade dropout, Gary was an ignorant, unrepentant sinner. Character and integrity had no meaning to him.
The Transformation Began
While incarcerated, God grabbed Gary's attention. Through a confluence of miracles, Gary's life changed. He earned his GED, associates and bachelor's degree with a double major. Upon joining a prison Toastmasters Club, Gary discovered an uncanny ability to connect with every audience he addressed. He found that when carrying a torch for another's path, you can't help but brighten your own. For over two decades, Gary mentored many inmates to read and write.

Finding Freedom
Private investigator, Al Starwich, Cleveland's Fox 8 News I-Team, and enthusiastic law students interning with the Ohio Innocence Project at the University of Cincinnati College of Law delved into the case. They found evidence that persuaded the governor's office, news media, and the court of public opinion that Gary Reece was innocent and should not be in prison. The parole board unanimously granted his freedom.
